Incorporated in 1886, the Village of Western Springs took its name from the clear, cool spring waters that existed when the area was settled. While the springs have disappeared, the Village today thrives on a growing, affluent population, a healthy local business economy, and Village government attuned to the needs of its residents and businesses.
The absence of industry, excellent accessibility to transportation, safe residential neighborhoods, “community ambiance” and a commitment to family values has made Western Springs a highly desirable location for families to put down roots.
With its quiet neighborhoods, charming downtown shopping district and tree-lined streets, Western Springs seems far removed from bustling downtown Chicago. However, commuters are just a 25-minute (express) or 36-minute (local) ride to the Loop via Burlington Northern’s Metra line, which stops at the downtown Western Springs station. Metra trains run seven days a week both east and as far west as Aurora. The Tri-State Tollway (I-294) cloverleaf at Ogden Ave. provides convenient access to all metropolitan tollroad and expressway stems.
