The Village of New Lenox was incorporated in 1946 by a group of merchants serving the agricultural community east of Joliet. Located 36 miles southwest of downtown Chicago, the Village is today as a well-planned community and a showcase of American pride. Its current population is nearly 15,000; the incorporated area is approximately 10 square miles, with more than 200 acres under annexation.
Until recently, the Village of New Lenox was primarily a “bedroom community” for people who worked in the city. Today, however, the number of businesses in New Lenox is growing at the same rate as new residences, thanks to a progressive, comprehensive master growth plan. There are 5,167 households within the Village limits, with approximately 300 new homes constructed each year by local builders and developers.
The Village of New Lenox offers the best of both worlds: Pleasant and tranquil, yet with easy access to the busy hustle and bustle of the city. New Lenox residents enjoy an outstanding quality of life with a peaceful atmosphere, excellent schools, 15 houses of worship, 300+ businesses (including in-home businesses), numerous civic and social organizations, 18 parks, the Sanctuary Golf Course, and several sports fields to accommodate all interests and ages. New Lenox is easily accessible via I-80 at exit 137, as well as State Routes 30 and 6. Downtown Chicago is about a 45-minute drive away. I-80 links with I-55 to the west and I-57 to the east. Additionally, current plans anticipate I-355 to be extended south to the northern section of the Village, connecting New Lenox residents and businesses to the north suburbs. Interstate 80 runs directly through the Village with easy access from exit 137. The Metra passenger rail line schedules 23 trains daily carrying passengers to Chicago’s Loop (in an hour or less) and communities in-between. The station is conveniently located in the heart of the Village.
