Dixmoor began as a housing development of 100 homes and was, until recently, a residential community of affordable homes. Then, location and access to road and rail transportation attracted industry. The village is now home to a dozen manufacturers. Village government developed plans for a special service area that includes a 38-acre parcel of land with commercial and industrial sites. It also established a Tax Increment Financing district that encompasses the parcel that assures start-up aid to new enterprises.
